How the word ‘harm’ has lost its meaning
The term 'harm' is often misused, diluting the actual impact of its original meaning. It no longer carries the weight it did when it referred to causing injury, especially when intentionally inflicted.
Overusing the term 'harm' to refer to irritations, slights, differences of opinion, discomforts, et al, poses a problem: it diminishes the significance and damage of actual harm. It obscures the causes and consequences of harm, hindering communication and understanding between individuals.
It would be beneficial to utilize 'harm' more deliberately and correctly, reserving its usage for instances of actual injury. By doing so we can uphold the meaning and value of the word, foster improved communication and comprehension, and -most importantly - prevent or mitigate the actual harm that may occur in our lives.
